I've always been amazed by Chinese Art; their paintings to be specific. I've been wanting to learn how to paint those beautiful portrait, landscape, flowers, birds, animals, and insects.

Luckily, I was invited to witness the launch of Chan Lim's exhibit at SM North Edsa The Block Atrium. The event marked the start of the Chinese New Year Festivities at the SM Malls.

I was able to learn a lot of skills and techniques on how to do Chinese brush painting. Mr. Alex Chan Lim did a live demo for us.

After his live demo, I was able to portray a few flowers in painting through the skillful help of the Chan Lim students and family.
But of course, I still have a lot of room for improvement.

We were entertained by Chinese and dragon dance.

It was also nice to see actor and Chan Lim family friend, Robin Padilla at the launch.
The Chan Lim family is one of the few remaining notable Chinese brush painting artists in the country today, and is sought after in this field. Art classes are conducted in the family studio located in Pasig City. Their paintings can be found in private collections here and abroad.

I was impressed by the Chan Lim brothers (Alex, Felix, Rolex and Jolex) for they are all engineers by profession and are currently engaged in leadership positions in multinational companies.

Master Jose “Angkok” is currently celebrating his 80th birth anniversary this year, a very auspicious milestone in the Chinese culture. All the Chan Lim art exhibits of 2017 will be highlighting this event. Eight of the exhibits will be specially-themed to celebrate the felicitous family event.

The exhibit is located at The Block Atrium is composed of more than 300 hand-painted porcelain plates, scrolls and oil paintings done by 43 talented artists from the Chan Lim Family of Artists and Students group.

The Chan Lim exhibit will be on display at The Block Atrium until February 12.
